The Legion of Honor’s collection includes masterworks that epitomize the impressionist sensibility, celebrating nature through the use of bright colors and dynamic brush techniques, as epitomized by Clause Monet’s (French, 1840-1926) stunning Water Lilies.  Monet’s famous paintings of water lilies, produced late in life at his gardens in Giverny, west of Paris along the River Seine, are among the most celebrated of the many aspects of his copious oeuvre.
