The lush green shamrock is abundant in Ireland and is its national emblem. St. Patrick is said to have used the trefoil plant to help explain the Holy Trinity to non-believers. It was worn as a symbol of solidarity during the Irish Rebellion against the British in the 18th century. Wearing a bit of green on St. Patrick’s Day also protects you from being pinched by mischievous leprechauns, or impish children.

What’s the difference between shamrocks and clover? They are in the same family, but shamrocks have only three leaves, while clover can have more.
